Reward You for Healthy Living
Wow. I can’t believe that it is June already. As we approach the first day of summer I thought I’d talk a little bit about some summer health hazards that we often times forget about, food safety. During the summer months we eat fresh veggies and fruits and cook outside. While these food choices are great, if you don’t handle them properly they can turn hazardous quickly. Here is what you need to do to keep your food safe this summer.
Most people know that eating fresh produce is a great way to improve your health and reduce the likely hood that you will need long term care. However, if you do not wash these items thoroughly before you eat them, you could ingest bacteria, bugs and other contaminants that could potentially make you very ill. To wash your produce you will want to put your produce in a colander and run them under cold water. Pick up each piece and make sure you rinse behind each leaf and that you cleanse the nooks and crannies of odd shaped produce.
Another health concern that you need to address when cooking out this summer is BBQ food. When we cook outside or have a BBQ, we bring a lot of food outside and it is exposed to the sun and to contaminants in the environment. To make sure your food is safe to eat, leave it inside until you are ready to eat it or cook it. For example, don’t bring out potato salad and other foods that can spoil until people are filling their plates. Also when you BBQ meats, make sure you use a thermometer to make sure each is cooked to the proper temperature. This will prevent food poisoning and other problems.

Superb study, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing just a little research on that. And he actually bought me lunch simply because I found it for him smile So allow me rephrase that: Many thanks for lunch!
