Meet Fitness Goals and Reduce Your Long Term Care Costs
Long Term Care Prevention Strategies: Setting Fitness Goals

Last week we talked about exercise journaling. This week I’d like to talk about setting fitness goals. When you set a fitness goal you can focus on your weight, your measurements, your endurance or on completing a specific sporting event. You can also focus on improving your health, such as lower your cholesterol or body mass index.

If you want to set a fitness goal that is based on your weight then you will want to talk to your doctor about what weight is healthy for your body type. Generally the doctor will take a look at your height and overall build to determine a weight range for you to shoot for. If you are overweight right now and are at risk for developing diabetes, then a modest weight loss goal of 10 percent can significantly reduce your risks for developing a variety of systemic diseases.

Another focus your fitness goal can have is a sporting event. For example, you can set a goal to participate in and finish a 10K race, a marathon or a stair climbing race. To meet a sporting event themed fitness goal you will need to think about developing physical skills required for participating in the event, as well as meeting your goals by a specific date. This type of fitness goal is great for people who need an external motivator to succeed.

Developing fitness goals can be a great way to improve your healthy and lower your long term care insurance costs. They can also be a great long term care prevention tool. Next week on this ltc blog we will be discussing upcoming sporting events that you can use to mold your fitness goals around.
