As we approach the end of October it is natural to think about Halloween and the parties that are going to be thrown. If you are interested in starting a healthier lifestyle that will keep you active and independent longer, then throw a healthy Halloween party. This will not only prove to yourself that healthy living can still be enjoyable, but it will also help you to show the people in your life that they too can live healthy and have fun.
There are many healthy snacks that you can serve at a Halloween party. Believe it or not, popcorn is a very healthy snack. It is high in fiber and low in calories. What makes popcorn unhealthy is the butter and salt that you put on it. To keep your popcorn snacks light and healthy use lite popcorn, which has about 20 calories per cup of popcorn, or use plain popcorn and add healthy flavorings like garlic powder and spray olive oil.
Chocolate can also be used for healthy snacks. The key here is to not overdo the chocolate. A little chocolate can go a long way. For a health snack try decorating a rice cake as pumpkin or Halloween character using melted chocolate. Use the chocolate to outline the shaped, don’t use it to fill in the spaces. Use food coloring and a paintbrush to color in the spaces.
